New Year, New... Intentions
Letting This Space Become What I Need
What am I really doing here? And Why?
Over the last few weeks, I have realized that I want this space to do something slightly different. I have a monthly newsletter, and I no longer want this to mirror that. I have social media, YouTube, and a podcast, and I don’t want this to be another place where I am promoting things.
Truthfully, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with a Substack. It was a new thing to me. I noticed a lot of people migrating their email lists/ newsletters here, so I wanted to explore it for myself. I spent last year learning how to use Substack, seeing what my peers and others were doing, but I couldn’t quite figure out what made sense for me.
Things started to feel off because I couldn’t truly define a purpose for this space. As I imagined what I wanted to feel, experience, and even return to, blogging came up. After all, one of the first iterations of Simply Robotix was a blog on my website when I graduated from art school.
What I want This To Be Now
I want to capture a bit more of the doing. I want to write from inside the work and not after it. There will be fewer conclusions, less advice, and no promises of outcomes. You can get all of that on any of my other outlets that I mentioned earlier.
I want this space to be a home for more of the process, more uncertainty, and reflection. Things won’t be as polished, though they will be honest and grounded. To start, I’ll be writing biweekly, and if I can make it up to a weekly cadence, great. If not, no pressure either way.
This pivot may not be for everyone, but for my fellow creatives, artists, and filmmakers alike, I hope this will feel like a cozy corner of the internet with your creative friend that’s also trying to figure it out in real time, right along with you.
I think this shift is more in alignment with me and my intentions, not only for the year but for the future. I don’t want this space to be so much about content but about the creative life, my creative life, instead.
So, if this sounds like a space you’d want to spend time in, I’m glad you’re here.
